A free workshop is being held for landowners in the Puslinch and Guelph area to learn ways to protect and attract bees and other pollinators.
The Trees and Bees Workshop will be held at Puslinch Community Centre (Alf Hayes room), 23 Brock Rd. S, Puslinch from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Pollinators are vital for their role in food production and maintaining healthy natural ecosystems. Fruit, nuts, oilseeds and many vegetables require the help of bees, butterflies, moths and other insects for pollination. Planting native trees and flowering plants can help provide for pollinator needs throughout the year.
The workshop will provide information on why pollinators are important, pollinators life cycles and ways landowners can improve pollinator habitat on their rural properties. Landowners with properties greater than five acres may be eligible for funding for tree planting or naturalization projects. Funding priority is given to areas directly next to watercourses.
To register for the workshop, please email ruralwater@grandriver.ca or call Karen Buschert at the GRCA at 1-866-900-4722 x 2262. Preregistration is required.
