Everyone is invited to this community planting at the Silvercreek Park Hydro Corridor in Guelph — the biggest planting day undertaken by Trees for Guelph. It takes place 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and parking is at the far end of Water Street, west of Edinburgh Road.
Help get plants and shrubs in the ground and start repairing this landscape. The community around the park is hoping that residents from across the city will help. Instead of planting trees on this site, native plants and shrubs will be planted, replacing the invasive plants that were removed last year.
If you know how to plant and would like to lead a planting crew, please email guelphforest@gmail.com with “planting captain” in the subject line. If you can contribute a tent for shade or food or refreshment please send an email as well. Also at this planting, native woody flowering shrubs will be provided to replace invasive European buckthorn removed from residential gardens. Residents should bring the buckthorn root to be traded for a native tree or shrub, thanks to the Buckthorn Bounty Program that is offered to Guelph residents by Trees for Guelph.
This event will take place rain or shine. It is also a great way for high school students to get their volunteer hours. Several volunteer groups, including students from nearby schools, will be planting the site before and after this community event. For more information, contact www.treesforguelph.ca.
