A free workshop is being held for landowners in and around Woolwich Township to learn more about how to protect and attract bees and other pollinators. Pollinators are vital for their role in food production and maintaining healthy natural ecosystems. Fruits, nuts, oilseeds and many vegetables require the help of birds, moths, flies, beetles or bees for pollination. Planting native trees and flowering plants is one way to promote local pollinator habitat. This workshop will provide information on planting to attract pollinators, enhancing riparian vegetation to protect aquatic species at risk, and creating forested areas for wildlife habitat. Landowners with properties greater than five acres are also eligible for funding for tree planting or wetland creation projects. Priority is given to areas directly adjacent to watercourses. To register, please email ruralwater@grandriver.ca or call Karen Buschert at the GRCA at 1-866-900-4722 ext. 2305
The workshop will be held at the Elmira Lion's Club. 40 South St. W., Elmira.
