A free workshop on windbreaks, shelterbelts and living snow fences – entitled “Right Tree, Right Place” – will be held on Wednesday, November 23 in Amaranth Township.
“Now is the time to start planning your planting project for next spring,” said Grand River Conservation Authority forestry specialist Jessica Robbins. “Join us at the workshop to learn what to plant and where.”
The event will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Amaranth Township Office, downstairs hall at 374028 6th Line. The workshop is targeted to rural landowners in Amaranth, East Garafraxa and Grand Valley.
The workshop will address the science behind windbreaks, shelterbelts and living snow fences and explain how and why they work so well. Choosing the right trees and the right locations maximize the benefits of your tree planting.
GRCA forestry staff will discuss planting programs and grants that are available to help achieve a landowner’s goals.
In addition, Dufferin County roads staff will present information about the Living Snow Fence Program, which makes roads safer and cuts down on accidents during winter.
Refreshments will be provided.
There is no cost to attend, but preregistration is required. To register, go to the GRCA’s Eventbrite listing at www.grandriver.eventbrite.ca or contact Jessica Robbins, forestry specialist with the Grand River Conservation Authority at jrobbins@grandriver.ca or by phone at (519) 621-2763, Ext. 2277.
Funding for the workshop has been provided by the GRCA and its municipal partners, through the Dufferin County Living Snow Fence Program.
