Join the Grand River Conservation Authority, our local Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup Site Coordinator and community volunteers to clean the lakeshore along Belwood Lake on October 12, 2018.
The Belwood bridge is the only bridge on Belwood Lake (Wellington Rd. 26). The shoreline is used by swimmers, boaters and anglers. It also provides habitat for birds and fish. After the summer, garbage and fishing equipment is often left behind by visitors. Volunteers will take advantage of low water levels to clean up the shoreline and will tally the results of items that they collect.
These cleanups may be of special interest to people who have watched the osprey webcam at Belwood Lake over the past years. They observed that fishing line, food wrappers and other garbage ended up in the nest, posing danger to the young birds.
The events are open to those who enjoy the outdoors and want to accomplish something meaningful. They are suitable for high school students who are looking for community hours (please bring your volunteer forms).
