Not everything hides away in the winter and neither should you! Get outside this winter by coming out to the beautiful Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area to get some fresh air, exercise and to enjoy the wonders of winter.
We have two options to get you outdoors and enjoying winter:
1. For families with young children we are offering a hands on, play based approach to explore our trails and learn about animals’ adaptations to our colder months. We may even spend more time playing than walking. For 45 minutes we will let our natural curiosity lead the way, turning over rocks and logs, digging in the snow, and peeking into crevices. The nature guide will encourage you and your family to use your curiosity and sense of discovery to enjoy the outdoors.
2. For adults and families with children ages 8 and up, we are offering a guided hike where we will cover more distance and learn more about plants and animals in the winter. We will lend out binoculars for helping us spot birds and animals in the area. This hike is for all levels of nature knowledge, so be prepared to get some exercise and learn new facts.
Splitting into two groups based on age, both hikes will last around 45 minutes and will head out on the trails promptly at 1:10 p.m. After groups return, we will help you refuel and warm up by roasting marshmallows on a campfire!
Please remember to dress for the weather. Breathable layers and shoes that are good for trail walking (such as hiking boots with tread) are recommended. Kindly note, Family Nature Walks take place on wooded trails that are not stroller or wheelchair accessible. Neither hike is a drop off event and children under the age of 14 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
This event is free for Grand River Parks Members and those who have paid the park admission fee.
This event is made possible through a donation from Toyota M.M.C to the Grand River Conservation Foundation, to encourage people to enjoy the GRCA’s Conservation Areas year-round. To learn more or donate, please visit www.grcf.ca.
